Shopify Fees for Digital Products (Plan Plus App Stack)

Shopify pricing pages quote a monthly plan. Digital sellers usually pay more than that sticker. You need a way to deliver files, and that often means a digital downloads app with its own monthly fee. Themes, email extras, and license tools can stack on top.

This post puts the common numbers in plain language. Card processing (Stripe, PayPal, or Shopify Payments) still applies wherever you sell and is not the focus here.

The stack most file sellers actually pay

1. Shopify plan. Basic is commonly discussed around $39 a month. Grow is higher. Confirm current pricing on Shopify.
2. Digital downloads app. Delivery apps often sit near $9-$19 a month for small catalogs, or more for higher storage and features. Some start free with product limits.
3. Extras. Themes, email, upsells, and license helpers are optional but common once you outgrow the defaults.

Example: Shopify Basic at $39 plus a Basic-tier downloads app near $9 is about $48 a month before processing. That stack still may not include beat license tiers, stem previews, or creator-first catalog tools.

How that compares to Roqstar

Roqstar Essential is $35 a month with no Roqstar transaction fee on paid plans. Delivery, licenses, and a branded catalog are part of the store, not a second subscription for "please deliver the ZIP."

When the Shopify stack still makes sense

If you already sell physical goods, run POS, or live inside Shopify for ads and operations, the digital app fee can be a fair add-on. Hybrid is normal: keep Shopify for merch, send digital buyers to a store built for files.
