How selling presets on Roqstar works

Roqstar is not a marketplace. We do not list you on Splice or ADSR, and we do not bring strangers to your store. Those sites can still help new buyers find you.
| Marketplace listing | Your Roqstar store | |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery from strangers | Often yes | You bring the traffic |
| Your brand and domain on checkout | Usually not | Yes |
| Buyer email for the next launch | Limited or none | Yes, your customer list |
| Instant download + re-download portal | Varies | Yes |
| License attached to the product | Varies | Yes |
Many sellers run both. Fee differences vary by marketplace; check each platform's current terms.
What kinds of synth presets can you sell?
If it fits in a ZIP, you can sell it: Serum, Vital, Massive and other banks, DAW racks, effect chains, drum machine kits and sampler instruments. Include an audio demo and a short install guide.
Your brand, not a marketplace booth
On Roqstar, your packs are front and center on your domain. Checkout and delivery stay on your URL.
Turn one preset sale into the next
Email past buyers, put monthly presets behind a membership, teach with a course, and answer compatibility questions with live chat. Also see Sell Sample Packs, Sell Beats, and Sell Lightroom Presets.
What about delivery?
Roqstar hosts the file and serves a secure download after payment. Buyers see it on the thank-you page, get it in the order email, and can re-download from your branded portal later.
Name the synth before the vibe
A preset bank is useless in the wrong instrument. The first line of the product page should name the synth and the minimum version: Serum, Serum 2, Vital, Massive X, Phase Plant, Pigments, Diva, or a stock DAW rack. If the bank needs a specific wavetable pack or a paid expansion, say so before checkout. Producers will forgive a bold sound. They will not forgive a ZIP that will not load.
Sell presets as a bank with a job: plucks for a genre, basses that sit under a drum kit, atmospheres, or FX risers. A mixed folder of 200 unrelated patches is harder to demo and harder to support. Group the files the way the synth browser will show them. Include a plain-text install note: where to unzip, which menu to refresh, and what to do if the wavetables look missing.

Audio demos, macros, and what is not included
Play the preset, not a finished song that hides it. A 15 to 30 second demo per flagship patch, or one montage that names each sound in the description, is enough. Mention which macros you mapped, such as filter cutoff, distortion, or delay send, so the buyer knows the patch is playable and not a frozen bounce. If the demo uses extra processing outside the preset, say that in one sentence.
Be explicit about what the ZIP does not contain. Preset files are not the same as a sample pack of one-shots, and they are not a MIDI pack of chord progressions. If you bundle a few WAVs or MIDI clips as extras, list them as extras. If the sound depends on samples you did not include, the page has to say which library the buyer must already own. That one line prevents the most common preset refund.
Licenses and selling the next bank
Preset licenses usually allow the buyer to use the sounds in their own tracks and client work, and they forbid resale or redistribution of the preset files. Write that on the page. If you offer a personal tier and a commercial tier, explain the difference in one or two sentences, not a wall of legalese. The PDF that goes out with the order should match the page.
After the first sale, the useful move is a second bank for the same synth, or a sample pack that uses those presets, or a short course that shows how you designed the sound. Same store, same buyers. Email the list when the next bank is up. A marketplace listing can still help strangers hear you. The people who already paid should land on your domain, where the install note, the license, and the next product are yours.
Treat the first bank like a product manual, not a moodboard. Open the synth on a clean machine, or ask one producer who does not have your folders, and follow only the install note. If they get stuck, the note is wrong. List CPU-heavy patches if a sound uses heavy unison or long reverb tails, so laptop users are not surprised. Record the demo at the same sample rate you mention on the page. Keep macro names in the preset identical to the names you use in the description, or people will hunt for a knob that you renamed after the video.
A preset store grows by format, not by adjectives. The next product might be a drum kit that uses the same bass, a MIDI pack of the chords in the demo, or a short course that opens the patch and explains the wavetable. Those are separate products with separate licenses. Link them when the files exist. Answer the install question in the first screen so a buyer can finish the purchase. Price the bank for the sound, publish the synth version, and keep the ZIP in the buyer portal so a reinstall six months later does not become a support ticket.

Tips before you launch a preset pack
- Lead with sound An audio demo sells presets. Text alone does not.
- List compatibility clearly Synth name, minimum version, and file formats up front.
- Include an install guide A short PDF or text file in the ZIP answers the most common support question.
- Price by outcome Buyers pay for the sound they get, not for patch count.
- Start with one product One bank and one channel first, then expand the catalog.
- Ship a license with the ZIP Clear terms cut support questions and set usage expectations.
FAQ
Which synth preset formats can I upload?
Sell presets as a ZIP of the native bank for the synth you designed for, plus an install note. Serum, Vital, and other common banks are fine. Name the synth and version on the page.
How do buyers install after checkout?
Sell presets with the ZIP on the success page and by email, and keep the file in your customer portal for re-download. The install note inside the ZIP should say which folder to use.
Should the demo be dry or fully produced?
Sell presets with a demo that lets the patch be heard. If the clip adds extra mix processing, say so, so the buyer knows what is inside the preset itself.
Can I sell Serum banks and sample packs together?
Sell presets next to sample packs, MIDI, and beats on one store. Keep each product's format obvious so a preset buyer is not expecting a drum kit.
What belongs in the license?
Sell presets with terms that allow use in the buyer's own music and block resale of the preset files. Attach the license to the product so it is part of the order.
Do I have to include the wavetables?
Sell presets with every file the patch needs to load, or name the third-party library the buyer must already own. Missing wavetables are the usual support ticket.
How many presets should a first bank include?
Sell presets as a focused bank you can demo, not the biggest number you can export. A smaller set of playable patches with macros beats an unlabeled dump.
Where do I send followers who want the bank?
Sell presets on your own store for people who already watch or read you. Keep a marketplace link only if it adds discovery you do not already have.
